Today was swimming day. The weather has been stupidly humid and hot lately.

My aim was to do 20 laps (1km) half freestyle and half breast stroke.
Ended up completing 14 laps before feeling getting sick.

Went to lie down on the towel and almost fell asleep singing U2 in my head.

breakthrough!

I’ve finished reading an awesome book called Born To Run – Christopher McDougall.
One of the best books I’ve ever read and has inspired me.

Anyway following some of the technique tips in the book yesterday I jogged 3kms in 16 mins.
BUT the amazing part was that I did not have that voice in my head saying “oh this is hard work, just keep going, keep going, you can do it!”

It was so nice to just run.
I did not have to will myself the whole way :) I’m hoping to find that feeling again the next time!

Finished work at 7:30pm, arrived home a bit after 8pm.

Arrived at the gym for a 30 min fast and furious workout!

Jogged 2.5kms in 15 mins

Rowed 1km in 4 mins 30 secs (on level 10)

Cycled 1.5kms in 4 mins flat.

Must be bed time.

weights

Today I spent 1 hour at the gym. was feeling a bit stiff from yesterdays pilates and jog, so i started with a brisk 1km walk to loosen up.

Sit ups, kept going til it hurt 4 times. 1/2 with the 3kg medicine ball. Then 30 push ups.

Then weights. yikes that was hard work. got 2 of the 5kg hand weights, on each side pulled up 30 times and repeated.

Then grabbed 2 of the 4kg weights and pushed them up in the air so many times until it hurt, and repeated.

Time to go on the leg press machine,  27kgs, 50 times.

Lat pull machine, pulled down heaps of times til it hurt, switched to the back, then the front and then the back again. by this time my arms were like jelly!

More sit ups with the medicine ball. prob only did 20.

30 more push ups. and then the plank! held the first for 30 secs, held the 2nd for 20 seconds, was shaking so bad!

10 min walk to stretch out and calm down before home and dinner!

first for 2010

Dear Exercise Diary,

I have been so bad! In the last 2.5 months, I have not exercised (well not properly) and I’ve gained 5 kilos! Terrible!

So it’s time to do something about it and get into shape. This means exercise, the regular hard work kind that gets results.

Today started with a 1 hour pilates class. Feels good being all stretched out. To get used to the breathing and moves, I stuck with the easy poses. NExt time I think I’ll try the intermediate, as easy was a bit too easy.

Then was a 5km jog. I was averaging 5kms in 30 mins last year, tonight it was 5kms in 35 mins. That’s pretty much 1min extra per kilo. booooo!

Blackmores Bridge Run

Beautiful weather in Sydney again!
Made my way to Milsons Point for the Start of the Race at 8:30am.
There was a huge crowd trying to get through a narrow gap, so didn’t start jogging until 8:45am.

The vibe was more serious in this crowd. The city 2 surfers seemed happier, they were out to have fun! The Blackmores runners were looking to run over anyone in front of them!

Got to 5kms in 32 mins, walked a bit.
7kms at 47 min mark walked  a bit.
Then jogged the last 1.5 (or more) kilometres to the finish :)

All in all, took me 60 mins to finish the 9kms.

Happy with my result and looking forward to checking out the dodgy Marathon Photos.com pics of me in a few days!

bahhhh……

sorry for neglecting you lately, here’s an update:
tried out the lightfooted running technique, so for the next few days my calf muscles were absolutley killing. i found leg muscles i didn’t know i had that were hurting!
then Wednesday night I caught a cold :(
I think it is the combination of staying up late to watch the filming of the TV show Underbelly, being a bit stressed working in a new place and going for all these job interviews.
I’ll take it easy for the next couple of days and do a 5km run on Tuesday. Then go all out for a good time at the race on Sunday.

my target was 55 mins.
today i did 8kms in 55 mins.
have to try fit another kilometre in there by race day!
